Executive Director
Makale Ngwenya is an accomplished economist with over ten years of demonstrable and practical experience as a researcher, consultant and specialist in a variety of roles in both the public and private sectors. She has a multi-disciplinary post graduate educational background in Economics (TUT), Sustainable Local Development (JAMP TUT and University of Trento Italy), and the Built Environment (Wits).
She obtained a Master’s degree in Joint African Master’s Programme in Comparative Local Development (JAMP) from the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation and University Degli Studi di Trento, Italy. JAMP is an international programme that utilizes economics, law and sociology to the analysis of local development. She also holds a four-year undergraduate degree in Economics. Ms. Ngwenya obtained a Masters in the Built Environment, specializing in Human Settlements from the School of Architecture and Planning, University of Witwatersrand where her research into the inner city of Johannesburg earned her an Andrew Mellon Scholarship from the Wits City Institute.
Her research interests in research lie in the nexus between economic development, human settlements, labour relations, industrialisation and broad macroeconomic development and the political economy.

Advises the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on all aspects of forestry in the country including the implementation of the Forestry Master Plan.
